O.P.P is a 9-piece horn-band meeting of circus music and surrealist cabaret, strongly influenced by jazz, klezmer, funk and fun. Occhipinti’s Sicilian Jazz Project takes its point of departure from ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax’s 1954 investigation of Sicilian roots music, but the project moves well beyond the original Italian folk songs into contemporary works that incorporate new voicings, rhythms and harmonies.
