Good day lovely jazz fans. Slim and keen. That is today's newsletter.
*There's an itch in the middle of my back and it will not go away until I figure out how to make this newsletter what you want. On Friday, I chatted with David of Evergreen Theatre and some other folks about newsletters. It seems the news lady is ready for something better and, my caring community folks, I need your help. Please complete this wee quiz. It uses a common method: where there are numbers, indicate how much you agree with the statement by choosing a number, 1 being low (NO) and 5 being the high (YES).
JAZZ IN HALIFAX IS TOO LONG...1...2...3...4...5
I PREFER THE PLAIN TEXT FORMAT...1...2...3...4...5
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE COLOUR AND PICTURES IN THE NEWSLETTER...1...2...3...4...5
I ALWAYS OPEN THE NEWSLETTER...1...2...3...4...5
I WOULD LIKE TO SELECT TOPICS OF INFORMATION I WILL RECEIVE...1...2...3...4...5
I LIKE TO READ ABOUT...[tell me what section(s) you like most]
If more than fifty people respond, then I will make a draw for a pair of tickets to the Flamenco Con Fusion II extravaganza. The draw will take place before next week's newsletter.
*Carlos del Junco's concert on CBC Radio 2's Canada Live, this Friday October 9th - Listen again or anew to the stunning performance Carlos gave at this year's JazzFest.
*Spread the jazzeast love - If you know someone who would like to receive Jazz In Halifax, send me a note or direct them to www.jazzeast.com.

02. Young pups, dog years and a pin filled map: the men of Con Fusion
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex Conde, Haggai Cohen Milo, Dinuk Wijeratne and Kinan Azmeh are all pretty young pups, yet in music years their age should be counted like dogs and cats. In terms of worldly experience, they have logged many travel hours hopping overseas and back. Their borderless careers fascinate me. Alex and Haggai just recently moved from Boston to live in San Francisco. Alex was born in Spain and Haggai in Israel. Dinuk's map has even more pins. He lives in Halifax, grew up in Dubai, studied in Manchester and was born in Sri Lanka. Kinan frequently flies along a global path too; he lives on the East Coast in New York City, was born in Syria and has performed at Tchaikovsky Grand Hall in Moscow, Bastille Opera in Paris and Carnegie hall in New York. These are worldly young men who by geography, youth and a drive to honour tradition within modern contexts are going to be on the North Street Stage adding their take on Flamenco to the undeniable force of Maria Osende. This is going to be a good night.

03. Geordie Haley's endless search for new sounds
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Geordie came to town two years ago, I was amused by the reaction of the musicians in the improvisation scene. What a buzz they made. It was the first time I was present to see players in the jazz scene anticipating a new playmate. With a true curious and adventurous mind, Geordie was quickly thick with the jazz thieves. He was on stage everywhere, shucking his new CD (you have to get it); he was a popular new kid. I finally got to see him perform last Spring and discovered what was behind the buzz. Geordie is truly and endlessly looking for new sounds. His familiarity makes him the kind of digger you want on stage with you.
This week at JazzEast's Thursday Night Jazz at Stayner's, guitarist Geordie Haley is joined on stage with our city's supreme-o players, bassist Tom Easley and drummer Tom Roach.
