Good day lovely jazz fans.

*There is a show tonight that you must see. Here are a few words from Susan's 1313 blast to answer the big question - Why? #1 "Tena Palmer is a no-frills singer. Unpretentious, low-key, audience friendly, a natural performer — she saves her fire for her music. Technically she’s a virtuoso. Expressively she’s a rare one, right up there with the jazz great ones — Ella, Billie, Sarah — in her ability to take us into the heart of the song: she gives us the gift of discovering depths and nuances of feeling in ourselves we never suspected we had." - Stephen Pedersen Chronicle Herald. #2 “…she takes your ear immediately. Not the classic jazz singing voice, but she’s got a flexibility, a lightness, incisiveness, a sense of play with the other musicians that is really unique. A beautiful voice that grows on you the more you hear it.” - Katie Malloch, CBC Jazzbeat. If these know-it-alls do not impress you with their words, then I guess you will have to come down to see it for yourself. (See Jazz Around Town for show information).

*Wowza, yowza. I heart Dani and Simon and Jerry. After working with the CMW students earlier that day, the three sparked all of their neural pathways leading them to the land of the creatively three. Sometimes you have to practice what you preach, and sure thing mister, the trio demonstrated depth and a playfulness that engaged the full house at 1313. The next day, one student said that he was impressed by how good it sounded and how much fun they were having. In the new year, you will be able to see some clips of the workshop and maybe the performance. Videographer, and all around great guy, Colin MacKenzie taped the whole thing and JazzEast will up load it to our YouTube channel for y'all to see. I will keep you posted.

*FYI: I made a mistake. Lulu told me, but I forgot. This Thursday night, the Joel LeBlanc Trio is performing at Stayner's, NOT Hot Toddy. Peace brothers.

*This is the last Jazz In Halifax until the first week of January. (see the Jazz Around Town listings for details). The JazzEast doors will be locked on Saturday, December 19th and opened on Monday, January 4th. Musicians: if you have a concert you want listed, then send me your information before end of day Tuesday, December 15th.

Canadian New Music Forum 2010 - Partnering Diversity: An International Creative Music Conference presented by The Canadian New Music Network | Sir James Dunn Theatre, Dalhousie Arts Centre

Halifax is this year's host of the annual new music conference and concerts. Paul Cram, Lulu and I attended last year in Toronto and it was fantastic! The people, the ideas and the music were all inspiring and smart. This year's theme is diversity and programming. I think ALL arts in the Maritimes should take part in this forum.

CarShareHFX deals
The other night, Lulu and I went to the CarShare headquarters on Agricola Street and were brought into the eco-smart world of CarShare. We were impressed by the ease of the service, the friendliness of the lady who whisked us through the orientation and the hybrid car they have at that site (it was so Star Trek). Two days later we used a car in the 1313 lot and the experience was so stress free. We needed a car immediately, went on-line to book it and ten minutes later we were driving to our destination. Fob in, Fob out. Click here to read how we will support your wise enviro-decisions.
