Five nights to Africville Stories! Brush up on the history.
Then and Now.
As you can imagine, the Africville Geneology site offers the most comprehensive history of Africville. My favourite page on their site is the timeline. Each link leads to details that are otherwise summarized on other sites. Below is a snapshot of the site. (The flowers are a really nice touch).

Like most stories, the ending is not fixed. This year there were two major accomplishments that are notable for Africville: 1/ The building of the church and the 2/ reclamation of its name. Both were big news items and were appropriately timed during the International Year of People of African Decent.
Firstly, the all important name. Africville is once again called on the maps, in the papers, in the history books. Seaview is just a blip on the screen. Below is a great story from the National Post.

Secondly, the all important symbol of the community: the church. CBC news on-line shows us pictures of the new site and the church underconstruction as well as telling us the story of the important day.
