Another Home for Halifax Jazz featuring Stevenson & Easley
JazzEast Steps Into the Realm of the House Concert With Bill Stevenson & Tom Easley. On Sunday, February 6, 2011, JazzEast begins its foray into the casual and classy, intimate and up close world of the house concert with Halifax's best known and highly regarded jazz duo--Bill Stevenson & Tom Easley.
"Jazz has a glorious reputation as music for the night club, but it also has a history of generating real heat in private rooms," says Laura 'Lulu' Healy, Artistic Director of JazzEast. "A patron's fancy hotel suite or a warehouse dive were places where diehard jazz fans and players hung, where the big divide between stage and seat did not exist."
The house concert has seen a resurgence in the folk music world. As an average house can only seat 20-50 people, music fans have found great value in adding this kind of listening experience to their entertainment mix.
"The night is for music fans, for the community," says Healy. "Bill Stevenson and Tom Easley are such talented and charismatic performers. They have a very playful way of interacting when they're on stage, and audiences love how the duo tends to bring them in to the fun...I think these dynamics will be especially animated in an intimate setting"
Bill Stevenson and Tom Easley are natural musical friends. Their in-tune, matching sensibilities mean that they are constantly drawn away from their personal professional pursuits back to perform and record together. Stevenson's deep, warm voice and playful delivery, his masterfully complicated yet simple blues and jazz piano playing lead each of the duo's exploration of melody and form. While Easley's tastefully innovative double bass interweaving brings us to the depth of what the songs are capable of sharing.
As a means to ensure listening and socializing, the concert will include an intermission, and there will be light snacks and drinks to share. The hosts of the night are the Arsenault/Wilkinson‘s home at 2888 Dublin St. in Halifax. Guests are to arrive at 7pm.
Tickets are $20 ($18 members) and are available at JazzEast 902 492 2225, 1313 Hollis Street. To stay in touch, subscribe to our newsletter on our website, follow us on twitter (HFXJazzFest) or join Jazz East on Facebook.
