Samba Nova is 20-30 piece percussion group that performs in the Brazilian percussion tradition Carnival Samba Batucada. It's a unique blend incorporating various elements of different styles of Brazilian music like Samba Maracatu and Samba Funk which are considered by some to be the epitome of the percussion group style. Samba Nova is a Halifax percussion ensemble known for its spontaneous outdoor jams and energetic rhythmic grooves. When Samba Nova assembles on the street or in a courtyard, the beat can be heard resounding throughout downtown. In this workshop the group will provide a look into the various rhythms and instruments associated with Brazilian percussion. Samba Nova's interactive approach to teaching is sure to appeal to the young and old, educate musicians of all skill levels and entertain everyone.
